Developing Strong Patrol Leaders
Patrol Leader Training is essential for developing the youth leadership that makes our troop successful. All patrol leaders and assistant patrol leaders are expected to participate in training to develop the skills they need to lead effectively.

Patrol Leader Training covers essential skills including:

Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST)
This is the basic training for all youth leaders in the troop. ILST helps scouts develop the leadership skills they need to effectively serve in any position of responsibility.
All scouts serving in leadership positions are strongly encouraged to complete ILST training.
National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)
For scouts who want to take their leadership skills to the next level, National Youth Leadership Training offers an intensive week-long course in leadership development. NYLT is available to older scouts who have demonstrated leadership potential.
On-the-Job Training
The best leadership training happens through experience. Our experienced adult leaders mentor youth leaders, providing guidance and feedback as they learn to lead their patrols and the troop.
Patrol Leaders' Council
The Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC) is where youth leaders meet to plan troop activities. Patrol leaders learn by doing as they participate in planning meetings, campouts, service projects, and other troop activities.
