Youth Leadership Positions
Troop 31 offers numerous leadership positions for scouts to develop their skills and serve the troop. These positions are essential for advancement to Star, Life, and Eagle Scout ranks.
Troop Leadership Positions
Senior Patrol Leader (SPL)
The Senior Patrol Leader is the top youth leader in the troop. The SPL works with the Scoutmaster to run troop meetings, represents the scouts at Patrol Leaders' Council meetings, and serves as the liaison between adult leaders and scouts.
Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL)
The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader helps the SPL lead the troop and fills in when the SPL is absent.
Patrol Leader (PL)
The Patrol Leader is the elected leader of the patrol. The PL represents the patrol at all Patrol Leaders' Council meetings and keeps the Assistant Scoutmaster informed of the patrol's activities.
Assistant Patrol Leader (APL)
The Assistant Patrol Leader helps the Patrol Leader lead the patrol and fills in when the PL is absent.
Other Positions
Scribe
The Scribe keeps records of troop meetings and activities, records attendance, and maintains advancement records.
Quartermaster
The Quartermaster is responsible for troop equipment, keeping it clean, organized, and in good repair.
Librarian
The Librarian manages the troop's library of merit badge books and other resources.
Historian
The Historian collects and preserves troop photographs and memorabilia.
Chaplain Aide
The Chaplain Aide assists with religious activities and encourages scouts to participate in their own faith traditions.
Instructor
Instructors teach specific skills to other scouts, particularly for rank advancement.
Den Chief
A Den Chief works with a Cub Scout den, serving as a mentor and role model.
Troop Guide
The Troop Guide works with new scouts, helping them feel welcome and learn the ropes.
Order of the Arrow Representative
The OA Rep serves as a liaison between the troop and the local Order of the Arrow lodge.
